5 Hidden Winter Gems in the Shenandoah Valley (January 2026 Edition)
As the holiday lights come down, the Valley enters its "quiet season." While it might be chilly outside, this is my favorite time to rediscover the cozy indoor spots that make Staunton and Waynesboro so special.
If you’re looking to beat the winter blues this weekend, here are five local favorites that are perfect for a January escape:
1. Get Lost in the Stacks at Bargain Books
Located on Richmond Road in Staunton, this is a book lover’s paradise. It’s a massive space filled with a quarter-million titles, from vintage finds to recent bestsellers. It’s organized, quiet, and incredibly affordable. It’s the perfect place to stock up for a winter’s worth of reading without breaking the bank.
2. Tropical Heat at Sunspots Studios
When the wind is biting, the warmest place in town is Sunspots Studios in Staunton. Watching live glassblowing demonstrations is mesmerizing, and the heat from the 2,000-degree furnaces makes it the coziest "spectator sport" in the Valley. Plus, the colorful glass art is a great antidote to the grey winter sky.
3. Hearth-Side Pints at Stable Craft Brewing
For that perfect "lodge" vibe, head over to Stable Craft Brewing in Waynesboro. They have a massive indoor taproom and a great food menu. This Sunday, Jan 4, they’re even hosting a Paint + Sip from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM—a great way to be creative while staying warm!
4. Art & Community at CoArt Gallery
Warm up with some local inspiration! This Saturday, Jan 3, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, CoArt Gallery in Staunton is hosting an opening reception for their January featured artist, Laura Vines. It’s a wonderful chance to support local talent and enjoy the downtown art scene.
5. A Winter Reset at Sol Flo Collective
If your New Year’s goal involves more "zen," check out Sol Flo Collective in Waynesboro. This Saturday morning at 10:00 AM, they are hosting a Full Moon Yoga & Soundbath. It’s a meditative indoor escape designed to help you start 2026 on a calm, centered note.
The Bottom Line
Our community doesn't hibernate; it just moves indoors. Whether you’re staying put in your current home (enjoying those low interest rates!) or looking for your next one, these local spots remind us why we love calling the Shenandoah Valley home.
